It Could be any Window

The cheerful scarecrow
in my front yard
startles me
as I look out of the window.
This out of place figure,
resplendent in fall colors,
pulls my breath
from my body
and causes my vision to swim
as I imagine
the terrors which
(may)
(please, no)
await my daughter.
I turn from the window
and pick her up,
protecting her,
while I still can.

  1. Oh, man. I relate so well to this. I keep trying to tell my husband that I have actual movies in my head, terrible and tyrannical. I can no longer watch the news, or shows like SVU.

    This is so well done.

  2. Thanks, De. I don't really like this one much. I like the idea. I just don't think much of the execution.
